Results of Prayer

Several weeks ago I sent this email, "Please take a missions moment and pray? Knees Needed" where I shared about our teaching in Guyana and I want to update you about the events of the Ministry and Educational Seminar in Georgetown, Guyana that was put on by Caribbean School of Theology (CST).
I want to share with you some of the events of this time in Guyana.

Just want to say thanks to you and all those who have been lifting Bartica up in prayer since the February 17 invasion by armed gangs. To date, three of the gang members have been shot and killed. About four in custody and the armed forces are on the trails of "Fineman"" Guyana's most wanted criminal. We have prayed for God to ambush them and we are seeing it come to pass.Thanks for praying. The government reports: In the wake of the attack at Lusignan that left 11 dead and three injured and the death of a Guyana Defense Force soldier, the government has declared today a national day of mourning.
While in Guyana this trip, 11 were killed from 3 different East Indian families, one Hindu, one family Muslim and one family from our Assemblies of God Church in Lusignan. The adults were murdered with the children begging for their lives with no mercy.

Today I received this report from our pastor and my student Rita Bruet-Pastor of Bartica AG Church, She reports:

I write you at a time when my village is in need of much prayer. Last Sunday night just as I got in from church our Police station was attacked and three police men killed and others injured. The gun men then walked through the first Avenue area and killed all those they found on the street. A total of 12 persons were confirmed dead. This has been the second mass killing in Guyana in four weeks, inflicting a collective death toll of twenty-three.

Just behind where we live there was a 45 minutes sustained gun fire. We had to lie on our floors for over two hours. Gun fire commenced at 9:10pm and ended at 10:45pm. They proceeded throughout the village shooting indiscriminately at whatever seemed to be a moving object. During those hours the believers were praying. By the power of God he protected and preserved our lives. We learnt that the bandits paraded the street in which I live, but not a round was fired in our street.

That had to be God as I had prayed and sealed our home and area with the blood asking God to get rid of these crazy bandits from our village. Troops were sent in but they arrived after the bandits left by boat. To date no one has been arrested. Our village now looks like a ghost town. Stores and business places were closed all day yesterday. Prayers are been said for us. Children and households are traumatized.

We have been praying and have organized a public prayer rally for 3 pm tomorrow in the open air. Our once peaceful community has been traumatized, many are fearful, but we are praying the God's purpose and will be done as we keep looking to Him the Author and finisher of our faith.
Please pray for our village.

A loud bang shook the whole neighborhood. Jeanne and I had walked to a nearby hotel to have a break and get some needed food at the dinner hour during language studies in Poona, Maharashtra, India. Walking to a Vegetarian Hotel, we sat, ordered and in a few minutes brought us food (it should have been at least a 20 minute wait-all food is be cooked fresh). It was a time of Hindu-Muslim riots in this region of India that had resulted in the Government calling in the Nations troops (the arm was in the streets). Things were bad. A curfew had been imposed on this bustling city and everything had to be closed and streets cleared at 6:00 in the evenings. It was already 5:20 and we had been delayed by our studies. One night the Hindus would burn a Muslim’s business, then the next it would be a Hindu merchant losing all he had to the fire in his business. Night after night this went on as the head of a cow thrown into the temple and the head of a pig thrown into the mosque. That night we sat in the restaurant and as the food came it was cold! It is impossible for food to be cold in a Vegetarian Restaurant. It has to be fixed for you. If it is cold it has been sitting, and in India that is just not good, not healthy and you shouldn’t eat it. With rats, cockroaches and flies aplenty this would have already been a meal for many others in the back room. We quietly excused our selves, paid the bill and started our walk-still hungry back home. We had walked and when we were nearing home about a mile away we heard a ka-BOOM!

What had happened? The next morning at 7:00 we were on our way by autorickshaw to our Language School classes. It was bitterly cold in the early morning chill of the Deccan Plateau, the paper told of four people dying of exposure in the cold of the night. As we passed the restaurant we had ordered food at the night before we asked the driver to stop. I was startled, as I looked at the four storied building that had collapsed one floor upon another and was in complete rubble. Four people had died the night before as Muslims had bombed the restaurant and we had escaped. If the food had been fresh and hot we would have been sitting completing our meal.

After recovering from the utter shock of the explosion, we walked over the scene of excitement. There stood one of Indian employees, examining the total damage. Shaking his head in disbelief, he kept saying: "What have they done to my "hotel?" The roof had crushed through cement walls but each floor had crushed in upon the other. The explosion had done its job, the building on the corner of the Gymkana was destroyed.

Did you know... the greatest, most significant explosions of today are not taking place in Iraq or any other war zone on earth? The most significant explosion of today is the explosion of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Vast regions, almost whole continents that were once dominated by the forces of darkness, are now burning with the power of God and God is getting ready to do even more!

You were born for such a time as this! Your life is not a mistake! God has equipped you with gifts that are essential to this generation! Are you fulfilling God's dream for you?

"For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?" (Esther 4:14)
